My genre is the thriller. I find that this genre is very conducive to the development of subplots and interesting characters. It also affords me a vehicle within an entertainment context to convey certain humanistic and spiritual messages to the reader that are important to me and to get the reader thinking. I like the fast pace and unpredictability of the thriller genre.
What do you find most challenging about the writing process, and how do you deal with it?
I need to do a great deal of research for my writing. This is a painstaking and exacting process. While it can be interesting at times, it also can be somewhat tiresome. I discipline myself to do it assiduously because I want my work to be credible.
When and where do you do your writing?
I write at all different times and places. Whenever I can break away from my day gig (being a lawyer) or from social or family obligations. I’m blessed with the ability to hyper-focus, so given some spare time I can write virtually anywhere.
What have you learned about promoting your books?
I’ve learned that there is no easy solution or method. You just do everything you can and hope that your marketing efforts pan out. At the end of the day, I’ve found that word of mouth is very important, as our strong reviews. Once you begin to sell some real numbers on Amazon, you begin to appear on their recommendation lists and that can be very helpful.
What are you most proud of as a writer?
I’m most proud when I go back and read certain passages that I’ve written and they have emotional impact on me. If they move me viscerally, then I’m fairly confident that others will find the passages compelling.
If you could have dinner with any writer, living or dead, who would it be and what would you talk about?
I’d love to have dinner with Oscar Wilde because he was so amazingly clever and had such an extraordinary way of turning a phrase. I’d be happy to talk with him about anything because I have no doubt he’d make it extremely entertaining.
Author Bio
William R. Leibowitz has been practicing entertainment/media law in New York City for a number of years. He has represented numerous renowned entertainers and many entertainment and media notable companies. William has a Bachelor of Science degree from New York University (magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and a law degree from Columbia University.
William wrote Miracle Man because of its humanistic and spiritual messages and because he feels that in our current times--when meritless celebrity has eclipsed accomplishment and the only heroes are those based on comic books, the world needs a real hero--and that, of course, is Robert James Austin, the protagonist in Miracle Man.
